Hey, since you are an admin of the Cyberpunk Wiki, I assume you've already seen the 48 minute gameplay reveal for the game? It's looking pretty sweet, isn't it?
Also, I was wondering if you have played the Wiedźmin (Witcher) trilogy developed by the same studio? It's quite unique among Western RPGs in its focus on Eastern European folklore, as well as storytelling with decisions that result in actual consequences (like Obsidian compared to BioWare).
I highly recommend checking out all three of them if you haven't, the books they are based on are pretty damn cool too - though I can't personally speak for the English translations. :)
Yeah i did watch it. Very cool stuff, and i really like how sudden it was just put up on twitch. A Lot of information to add onto the wiki, my apologies, i wish i could be more active on here, especially since E3 there has been so much new info about the game, i will make sure to pop back when the game releases to contribute as much as i can. I Guess the nice thing about Cyberpunk, is that its so far off, and i cannot imagine we will get any more new information in the coming months.
Oh yes, i love the Witcher games and books. I Just finished up the new prequel book (well new-ish, only just came out in English), Season of Storms. Here's to hoping he writes a few more like that. I do really like the games, but i didnt think that many choices had actual consiquences (i may be biased at the moment, as i am currently going through Mass Effect again), but i dont remember all that many choices afecting many things later on in any of the games. The only ones i can really think of are the Tree Spirits/Bloody Baron death, Meeting Emperor Emhyr and Ciri ending, and maybe the quest to assassinate Radovid. Like i said i am replaying ME1,2,3 at the moment, and there are so many little things that cross over between the games, the only thing i can actually think of that crossed over in all three witcher games is if Siegfried lived in 1, and if you got that blue stripes tatoo in 2. I Dont think anything of importance really crossed over between the games.
Personally i really like the English translations, and the audio books are superb, though i did read they got the games voice cast to voice the polish audio books, and the guy that did Vernon Roche voiced Geralt. I Got into them a few years back though, and did read translations, which i thought were ok at the time. Hell i even love the old TV series/Movie they did, did you hear about the Netflix Witcher show? I Heard Sapowski is even involved a little bit.
Oh that's great to hear, I didn't realise they had already translated Sezon burz to English! I liked it quite a bit too. I'm really glad how much international interest for the books was boosted after the games got popular in the West (especially the third one), and sped up the translation process. I mean, the books were always quite big in Poland, Czechia, Russia, even Germany iirc. But they did not really get as widespread in Anglophone countries until relatively recently in their history (Sapkowski started it all by writing the first short story in the 1980s, after all).
As for the decisions, you are absolutely right about how much is carried on from one instalment to another. In Wiedźmin it's more just a gimmick; I believe BioWare are the masters of that, Dragon Age does it pretty well too but Mass Effect is easily the real showstopper here. However, as for what matters in each game and how varied outcomes can be - as well as how non two-dimensional and complex the morality is - I'd say CD Projekt have become the masters of that, alongside Obsidian with Fallout 2 and New Vegas (can't speak for Pillars of Eternity since I haven't played it myself). Only Obsidian games unfortunately tend to be plagued by more technical issues than their BioWare and Bethesda predecessors (e.g. KotOR II and New Vegas).
Funny you mention the Wiedźmin TV series, back in the old country people like to forget it even exists. I think I'm softer on them than most Poles are, coz I still find them nostalgic and don't think they're quite as bad as we make them out to be (they aren't good either though). Plus Żebrowski is pretty damn good as Geralt. The film, on the other hand, I'm not a fan of as iirc it is just made up of content from the series stitched together, but with a lot of themes missing due to the shorter length requirements heh.
I actually used to upload these gaming-related videos to my YouTube channel, plenty about Metro and some about Witcher if you're interested. I took it really seriously at one point - made my own Patreon and all - but had to postpone due to lack of success and increasing pressure from studies along with other irl duties. Anyway, I actually started off with a video about the folklore and history behind W3, so if you'd ever wanna check it out here is the link:
My production values and skills got better over time and with each new video (with the exception of some of my few attempts at podcasts), as I put more money and time into them and learned from my mistakes. I would love to hear your thoughts about anything that interests you. In fact, on a side note, I was thinking of actually going back to making these at some point and you are the first person I've told about this online heh.
However, I have no idea if there would be enough people into it to keep me going and with my last year of studies coming up I might be too busy to do it frequently. My biggest success, I believe, was when the official Metro profile on Facebook shared some of my videos heh. This reply got much longer than I thought it was going to be, sorry about that haha.
Yeah it was a pretty good book, i dont think i enjoyed it as much as Last Wish/Sword of Destiny, but i did like that it was completly separate from the main saga. Personally im not really a fan of Fantasy, but i think witcher is more grounded in reality compared to something like Lord of the Rings. Its funny, i remember W2 having a decent launch and was kinda big when it came out, but at that time, i think only Last Wish had been translated into english, with Blood of Elves being released that year, or the year after. The ending of the main saga was only published last summer.
Not played many Obsidian games myself, only New Vegas really, but i did like that more than F3 and F4, although i have put way more hours into F4 for some reason.
I Love the show, and in particular the second or third episode, Smok or Dragon is just so good. I Know people point to that episode and the CGI for it being a bad show, but that episode is straight out of the books. I Agree too, Zebrowski was great as geralt, when he was just talking he felt like a real person, and as much as i like the Witcher games, the english voice actor, puts on the voice a bit too much, a bit too often. The only annoying this, is that you cant seem to buy the series anywhere, yet the movie is really easy to find. In fact, i actually bought a copy of the bluray, which i found out was actually the German version (and it looks like a dvd), but for some strange reason, iTunes were selling it in full HD and with english subs. Im hoping they do release the show at somepoint, i think the only good way to see it is a rip recording from polish TV on youtube.
Yes i remember seeing your videos before actually, i think it was the video you did with Komo that i saw first. I Must say i did particularly like your video about Andromeda too. I'd watch more if you did decide to put them out. I Will say the videos did get better over time, but like you said, learning from mistakes makes things better. I Never really did anything with youtube outside of a few game clips, some 3D stuff i did or videos of live bands, but i can imagine its a pain in the ass to make an actual video with voice over and video clips etc.
Yeah id imagine that would probably reach a fair few viewers with it on the official metro page. Dont think i have ever had anything like that before, except them maybe acknowledging us before we became the official fan wiki.
Haha, dont worry about it being too long, i dont mind. Like i said, if you do decide to get back onto youtube, let me know, i will be interested to see what you put out.
Thanks man, glad to hear it! And yeah, whenever I visit the old country, I try to find the series on DVD - mostly for nostalgic reasons - but can never get it in the end. The only way I can view them again now after all these years is YouTube, which is a shame.
As for the English-language voice actor for Geralt, agreed totally. Jacek Rozenek in the native dub is much better imo.
As you've probably realised, it's been a while since I have been active on the wiki. After my last edit at Metro Exodus, the newest video keeps showing up at the top of the page. It messes with the article and makes it look worse basically. Do you know if there is any way to remove this or is it some kind of weird global Wikia feature that they implemented while I was gone?
No problem, hopefully with E3 happeneing, more info keep coming out now until next feb when the game releases. Regarding that video, i have found it on my other wiki, Cyberpunk, seems like they are using some kind of script to add videos into articles. I Have sent the wiki comunity a message regarding this for both wikis, and if we can have them removed, i argued that we have video galleries at the bottom of the page anyway, and it ruins the flow of our content. I Doubt anything will come of it, but we can always hope.
got a very lengthy responce from wikia support. They are here to stay, something about reducing load times and a bunch more rubbish. Its pretty annoying and i have seen some people use scripts to block it, but it seems to be just for yourself and not other users. Hopefully they only pop up when big trailers are released.
Sadly not surprised at the response (reducing load times? lol). Yeah, I too have only managed to find ways of blocking it locally rather than globally, which sucks. Had to happen on a page like Metro Exodus too, eh? Cheers for the help though.
No problem. I Emailed back asking for some more info, and who gets to choose the videos. Apparently its all on their end (which is a bit shit letting them control our content), but they assured me it will be official stuff and possibly down the line "lore" videos etc. Which i dont really like the idea of, the "lore" and information is all on our page, dont really need some random, non-affiliated video at the top.
Basically, the tl;dr is that the mainpage is somewhat broken and needs to be redesigned (probably without the custom css module). If you are interested in collaborating or have any thoughts/feelings please reach out to me!
It is AFTER the events of book series and videogames. It is just a little project with some factions and small amonts of station for small grop of people. I'm also writing stories, so i can write a little rivia for it... but no, it isn't in time before the 2033 year... Bt, thanks for idea, i could do it to, after i finish this project.
In that case, maybe do another thirty years in the future, Metro 2066, which was roughly when Hunter said it would be habitable to live on the surface again - do the last of the Metro dwellers (worn down to a few thousand after all the wars and mutant attacks) leaving the Metro for good to begin rebuilding civillisation. You could also include the return of the Dark Ones (remember, the Baby Dark One said he'd return one day?) to help them rebuild.
I was thinking something arond 3 years after... You must be aknowleged, that i do it us i game, not something that do it's own Novel. It's just something like MMO but in small. And i actally don't like thinking about the rebuilding civilisation, i like the Metro :D. (Sorry for grammar, i'm not from English speaking contry)
I Noticed another user commenting on his wall about minor and insignificant edits. I checked them out and Araogo603 got banned for "edit manipulation". He had gone on to several pages, and removed each letter from a sentence, then adding them back. Each letter removed, he would save the edit, making it look like he had dome somehting, and added to his edit count. That sort of behavior is not tolerated and i have banned him for 1 week. I Shall keep an eye on his future edits to see if it happens again. If so, im afraid its a year ban for him.
i suppose "boosting" would be the correct term, but yes that was what he was doing. We do not tolerate boosting, to position yourself higher in the leaderboard. This wikia is about the content first and foremost
Well Metro 2034 really isn't suited well for a video game (Based on the plot of the story). So I'm guessing they'll move foward past the events with Artyom, but they still would have to make a canon ending of Last Light or could this next game be a prequel to Last Light? Artyom is the Master Chief of this franchise, I mean the books are WAY different but based on the ending of Last Light they can't just ditch Artyom's tale, Hunter has been mentioned a lot and something just tells me that Artyom will be somehow involved in the next title...
HELLO! I just finished Metro: Last Light today and I restarted with Ranger mode on. I can't seem to find any indication of how much ammo I have left. Is that feature completely removed when ranger mode is on? Thank you, and if there are any other ranger mode mechanics that are must know could you please update me?
